After 1st day of Race the Planet Ecuador Charlie Engle Sits in 5th

After the finish of the 28.4 mile stage one of the Race the Planet Ecuador stage race Charlie Engle sits in a comfortable 5th place 24 minutes back from race leader Ake Fagereng of Norway.

Starting in the shadow of Mt. Cotopaxi, a 19,347 foot volcano, stage one traveled west as it gained an initial 1,800ft and then descended down as it headed away from the mountain. Altitude was certainly a factor for many athletes as the course topped out near 11,500ft. Stage two will be another great and challenging day. Continuing to head west it will start out continuing a moderate descent before hitting a 6 mile climb reaching even higher than stage one. The stage will end at mile 25.4 after a quick descent from the high point. Stay tuned for updates from stage two!
